What is Leadership Coaching?
Leadership Coaching, also known as Professional Coaching, is an inquiry-based conversation that is agreed upon between two people, a client and a coach, that serves to create new insights and learning. These new insights and learning help the client to recognize their potential and the various possibilities that would enable them to reach their goal(s). Coaching borrows from multiple fields which include, but are not limited to, psychology, neuroscience, change theory, emotional intelligence, among others.
Neuroscience
By studying how the nervous system functions as well as how the brain works (cognitive) a coach is able to better understand, perceive, and intuit what clients are thinking and learning. Neuroscience provides us with the foundational knowledge of how client behavior is linked to their thinking. By knowing this, it enables coaches to use specific techniques (inquiry, establishing trust, etc.) which leads the client to a more toward state.
Neuroplasticity
The brain is a powerful muscle that is always evolving based on new information that is hardwired into it. Neuroplasticity teaches us that the brain changes throughout life based on one’s experiences. As we learn how the brain functions, we learn more about ourselves and the clients with which we meet. We learn about each other’s thinking processes which is caused by this hardwired learning that creates one’s perceived reality.
